My name is Stephen Wilkins. I am a Pastor. I am a Presbyterian. And in a nation where politics has been narrowed down to Red and Blue, I am decidedly… PURPLE.

Our nation and our communities — and, unfortunately, also our churches — have succumbed to the pressure to divide between right and left, conservative and liberal, evangelical and progressive, Republican and Democrat. I refuse to accept this polarization as our defining reality, because in Christ there is room at the table for all who would come to him. The church in America is in peril of losing sight of the beautiful reality that we have because of our common identity with Jesus Christ: “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, slave nor free, male nor female; for all are one in Christ Jesus.”(Galatians 3:28, NIV). I would add that in Christ there is neither Red nor Blue; but when both come together, what results is a beautiful shade PURPLE.

I hope that my posts on this blog will fulfill my goal of inspiring faith and hope that fosters unity, encourages us to love one another as Christ has loved us, and seeks to build up rather than tear down and divide. I depend on grace every day. I hope and pray that whatever I share, the grace of Christ will be evident. Thank you for joining with me on this journey.

Faithfully yours,
